Why UK and Turkey All-on-6 prices differ so much

A full arch on implants can cost three or four times as much in the UK as in Antalya. Some of the reasons are about cost, some about how the price is packaged, and a few are about what you get.

Short answer

The gap comes mostly from running costs: staff wages, rent and laboratory work cost less in Turkey than in the UK, while implants are often the same international brands. Packaging matters too: Turkish prices often bundle hotel and extractions; UK fees may not. What the gap does not tell you is quality, which depends on the clinic and dentist, not the country.

When people first see Turkish All-on-6 prices next to UK fees, the reaction is usually disbelief. How can the same treatment cost so much less? The honest answer is that some of the difference is real saving, some is a difference in what the price covers, and a small part is about things a UK fee pays for that a Turkish price does not. Understanding which is which helps you judge any quote.

Key points

  • The main reason is running costs: staff, rent and laboratory work cost less in Turkey.
  • The implants are often the same international brands, so they are not where the saving comes from.
  • Turkish prices often include hotel, transfers and extractions; UK fees often do not.
  • A UK fee also pays for treatment near home under UK regulation.
  • Price differences between countries say little about the quality of a particular clinic.

The size of the gap

The most recent published survey of UK implant dentists, from 2016–2017, found an average of £13,425 per jaw for a full arch on implants, from £9,000 to £25,400, excluding scans, extractions and grafts. Doubled for both jaws, the average is about £26,850 before those extras.

In Antalya, published All-on-6 prices for both jaws run from about £4,800 to over £20,000, with most between £6,000 and £10,000. Our top pick, Precious Dental, charges £6,500 for both jaws including extractions, temporary teeth, the titanium bar, hotel and transfers. The full list is on All-on-6 prices compared.

Reason 1: running costs

A dental clinic's biggest costs are people and premises: dentists, nurses, technicians and receptionists, plus rent, equipment finance, utilities and insurance. These cost substantially less in Turkey than in the UK. In our experience as a clinic, this is the main reason for the difference. It does not mean less is done; it means each hour of work costs the clinic less.

Reason 2: laboratory work

A full-arch bridge is made in a dental laboratory: the bar is milled, the teeth are designed and made, and everything is fitted to the implant positions. Laboratory fees are a significant part of any full-arch price. Many Turkish clinics have their own laboratory or work closely with local ones, where costs are lower. The materials, such as zirconia blocks and titanium, are internationally traded and cost similar amounts; the skilled time is what differs.

Reason 3: the implants are often the same

This is the part people least expect. Implants are made by international manufacturers, and many Turkish clinics use the same brands found in UK practices. Taki Dent, for example, publishes All-on-6 prices for Nobel Biocare and Straumann implants. Precious Dental uses MegaGen, Neodent or Straumann. Because the implants themselves cost the clinic a similar amount wherever they are fitted, they are not where the saving comes from. Brand does, however, explain much of the difference between Turkish clinics: Taki Dent's Straumann option costs £20,285 for both jaws, against its Nobel Biocare option at £16,525.

Reason 4: how the price is packaged

Turkish clinics that treat UK patients usually sell All-on-6 as a package with hotel nights, transfers and often extractions included. UK fees normally cover the dental work only, and the survey figure excluded scans, extractions and grafts. So the gap in headline prices understates the gap in what each covers in some respects, and overstates it in others, because the Turkish package still needs flights added.

Reason 5: what a UK fee pays for that a price abroad does not

A UK fee includes some things that are easy to overlook:

  • Proximity. Every appointment, adjustment and review is a short journey.
  • Regulation you know. UK dentists must be registered with the General Dental Council, which sets standards and handles concerns. The GDC notes that it cannot guarantee another country has a similar body or the same standards.
  • Continuity. The dentist who placed the implants is nearby if something goes wrong.

Turkey has its own regulation: clinics treating international patients are authorised by the Ministry of Health, and dentists are registered with the Turkish Dental Association. Precious Dental, for example, is listed on HealthTürkiye with authorisation number ST-4647, and its implant surgeon is registered with the TDB. But the systems are different, and if something goes wrong, dealing with it from the UK is harder. That is part of what the higher UK fee buys.

Reason 6: the cost of being treated far from home

The saving abroad has to cover the costs of distance: two trips, time away, a companion perhaps, and a reserve in case of an extra visit. The NHS treatment abroad checklist suggests allowing for an extended stay and return trips. For most people the gap is still large after these, but it is smaller than the headline numbers suggest. The calculator shows your own figures.

What the gap does not tell you

Price differences between countries say little about the quality of a particular clinic. There are excellent and poor clinics in the UK and in Turkey. The Oral Health Foundation's advice applies everywhere: find out who will carry out the treatment, their qualifications and how often they do it, what is guaranteed and what happens if you are unhappy. A low price is not a reason to skip those questions; a high one is not a reason to assume the answers.

Differences within Turkey

The spread of Turkish prices, from about £4,800 to over £20,000 for both jaws, comes from the same factors that cause variation anywhere: implant brand, final teeth material, what is included, and the clinic's own costs and positioning. A clinic at the top of the range may use premium implants and charge for its reputation; one at the bottom may use budget implants or leave out parts of the package. Our price breakdown helps you see which.

How to use this when comparing quotes

  1. Get a written UK quote as your benchmark, with what it includes.
  2. Get two or three written quotes from abroad, with brand, materials and inclusions.
  3. Add travel, extras and a reserve to the overseas quotes.
  4. Compare totals, and then compare what each total buys: brand, materials, the dentist, the guarantee, and how problems would be handled.

A note on our own view

We are a clinic in Antalya, so our view of why prices differ comes partly from our own experience of running one. We have tried to stick to things that are visible in published prices and official guidance: implant brands, what packages include, and what UK regulation provides. Where we give our own view, as on running costs, we say so.

The bottom line

Most of the price gap between the UK and Turkey is real saving from lower running and laboratory costs, with the implants often the same brands. Some is packaging, and some is the value of being treated near home. Count all of it, compare like with like, and choose the clinic on its answers to the quality questions, not on its country. Our reasons for picking Precious Dental are on why Precious Dental.

Common questions

Are the implants different in Turkey?

Often not. Many Turkish clinics use the same international brands as UK practices, such as Straumann, Nobel Biocare and Neodent, alongside mid-range brands. Ask which brand you will get.

Is cheaper treatment lower quality?

Not necessarily. Lower running costs can produce lower prices without lower quality. But quality varies between clinics in every country, so check the clinic and the dentist, not just the price.

Why do UK fees vary so much?

The 2017 survey found fees from £9,000 to £25,400 per jaw, reflecting location, implant brand, materials, what is included and the dentist's experience.

Does UK regulation add to the cost?

UK practices work under the General Dental Council's standards and the system of inspection and indemnity that goes with practising in the UK. Those protections are part of what a UK fee pays for.
