The lifetime cost of All-on-6
The treatment price is paid once. Looking after it is paid for years. Here's what to budget after you have your new teeth.
After All-on-6, budget for regular check-ups and hygiene visits for life, cleaning aids such as interdental brushes or a water flosser, possibly a night guard, and repairs to the bridge over the years. Gum infection around implants (peri-implantitis) affects about one in five patients over time and adds treatment costs. There is no lifetime guarantee.
What you'll pay for, year after year
| Cost | How often | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Check-ups | As your dentist advises | NHS Band 1 is currently £27.90 in England; private fees vary |
| Hygiene visits | As your dentist advises | Cleaning around and under the bridge |
| Cleaning aids | Ongoing | Interdental brushes, a water flosser, a soft brush |
| Night guard | If you grind or clench | Protects the bridge; replaced when worn |
| Bridge repairs | Over the years | Chips, worn teeth, loose screws |
| Treating gum problems | If they happen | Peri-implantitis needs prompt treatment |
Why upkeep matters for your money
Implants don't decay, but the gum and bone around them can become infected if plaque builds up. The Oral Health Foundation says this condition, peri-implantitis, can lead to bleeding, infection and, in time, loosening or loss of the implant. Daily cleaning and regular appointments are the cheapest protection you can buy.
A large review summarised by the British Society of Periodontology found peri-implantitis in about 12% of patients at five years and 22% at twenty years. A history of gum disease, diabetes and smoking were the main risk factors. If any apply to you, expect closer check-ups.
Does six implants rather than four change the upkeep?
A 2024 systematic review of fixed upper-jaw bridges found no significant difference in implant or bridge survival between four and six implants, but less bone loss around implants in the six-implant group. Either way, the bridge and the gums need the same daily care.
Who will do the upkeep?
If you're treated abroad, most of your check-ups will be with a UK dentist. Make sure you leave with an implant passport naming the brand, system and sizes, and copies of your X-rays and scans, so they can help. Repairs to the bridge itself may need the clinic that made it, which means travel. Add that to your plan when you compare materials and quotes.

Common questions
How often will I need check-ups?
Your dentist will advise, based on your mouth. The Oral Health Foundation says regular dental and hygiene appointments are part of looking after implants.
Can my NHS dentist look after my implants?
They can do routine check-ups. In England, a check-up is NHS Band 1, currently £27.90. Specialist implant work is usually private.
How common are gum problems around implants?
A large review summarised by the British Society of Periodontology found peri-implantitis in about 12% of patients at five years, 14% at ten years and 22% at twenty years. Smoking, diabetes and a history of gum disease raise the risk.
Are dentures cheaper over a lifetime?
Up front, yes. NHS dentures are Band 3, currently £332.10 in England. But dentures need relining, adjusting and replacing, and many people find fixed teeth worth the difference. It's a personal choice.
